Since the launch of the Renaissance-supported Akuku-Toru Community Health Insurance Scheme (Akuku-Toru CHIS), there has been an increase in access to quality health care by the people of Akuku-Toru LGA and its environs in Rivers State.
Leadership, led by CEO Dr. Andy Eyo, on 25th and 26th May 2026 visited Rivers State to advance implementation of the scheme, assessing remodeling works at the Model Primary Healthcare Centre, Abonnema, and touring Obio Cottage Hospital, the model on which the Akuku-Toru CHIS is built, which has about 6000 enrollees, served by about 20 doctors and more than 65 nurses.
The visit also included a courtesy visit to Renaissance’s corporate office where they met with the Renaissance country health manager, Dr. Akinwumi Fajola, to reinforce collaboration and appreciated the company’s continued support for community health initiatives. The engagements provided valuable insights into strengthening service delivery, enhancing operational efficiency, and adapting proven best practices to meet the unique healthcare needs of the Akuku-Toru communities.
