Following the introduction of the Standard Q HIV 1 & 2 Antibody 3-Line Rapid Test Kit as an alternative first-line HIV test to the Determine HIV 1/2 kit, the Cross River State AIDS and STI Control Programme (SASCP), with technical support from the ECEWS ACE 5 Project Laboratory Team, conducted a two-day virtual learning on April 29–30, 2026, targeting health personnel across Cross River State.
Seventy-four participants joined from supported health facilities and implementing partners across the state, including government laboratory personnel, HIV Testing Service providers, and ancillary staff. The virtual format was a deliberate choice to reach participants across geographic barriers without disruption to routine services.
Delivered through a structured and interactive approach, The training covered the principles of the Standard Q test, differentiation of HIV-1 and HIV-2, storage requirements, quality assurance, and ethical considerations using practical result interpretation exercises and case scenarios aligned with the national HTS algorithm. By the end of the two days, participants demonstrated meaningfully improved competence in applying the new test kit, a foundation for more accurate and consistent HIV diagnosis across supported facilities in Cross River State.
