Strengthening Health Partnerships: ECEWS Briefs Ebonyi Commissioner on HIV, TB Gains

To strengthen state health partnerships, Excellence Community Education Welfare Scheme (ECEWS) Ebonyi State Global Fund (GF) Team, led by Deputy Project Director and Technical Lead Dr. Bokime Frank, and accompanied by Pharmacy/Supply Chain Manager Pharm. Igboamalu Chukwunonso and Senior Technical Officer, Prevention Care and Treatment, Dr. Nwakpa Ezekiel, paid an advocacy visit to the Honourable Commissioner for Health, Ebonyi State, Dr. Moses Ekuma, on 17th of June, 2026 at the State Ministry of Health, Abakalliki. The visit was targeted at briefing him on the impact of ECEWS-supported interventions under the GC7 Nigeria TB and HIV Reach Integrated Project (N-THRIP). Additionally, the visit served to commemorate ECEWS 25th anniversary, marking 25 years of impactful service and contribution to public health in Nigeria.

Dr. Bokime highlighted ECEWS’s contribution to Ebonyi State’s progress toward the UNAIDS 95-95-95 targets and outlined recent programme innovations, including Cabotegravir Long-Acting (CAB-LA), Lenacapavir (LEN) Injectable PrEP, and Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) services, which aim to further expand access to prevention and treatment.

In response, the Honourable Commissioner commended ECEWS for its longstanding commitment and highly impactful public health interventions in Ebonyi State. Dr. Ekuma praised the organization’s technical support and innovation, noting that its contributions have been vital in strengthening health infrastructure and improving patient care outcomes. He assured the team of the state government’s absolute support in sustaining these gains.

Ultimately, the visit reinforced the mutual dedication of ECEWS and the Ebonyi State Government to achieving epidemic control and improving overall health outcomes for the people of Ebonyi State.
