ECEWS Trained 38 QMS Implementers in Akwa Ibom to Strengthen Laboratory System

ECEWS is continually strengthening laboratory systems across Nigeria through targeted investments in Quality Management Systems (QMS), capacity building, and accreditation preparedness. From the 4th to 8th of May 2026, ECEWS collaborated with partners to deliver a five-day Quality Management System Certification Training for 38 QMS Implementers and Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria (MLSCN) Auditors in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.

Conducted under the theme Implementing and Auditing an Integrated Quality Management System for Fit-for-Purpose Laboratory Services, the workshop addressed internationally recognised standards including ISO 15189:2022 for quality management, ISO 19011:2018 for audit management, and standards covering occupational safety, management, and risk management.

Through technical sessions, case studies, and hands-on exercises, participants built practical skills across a broad range of areas such as continuous quality improvement and internal auditing to biosafety, documentation, laboratory information management, and emergency preparedness.

Together, these interventions strengthen the foundation for laboratory accreditation and compliance, ensuring that the diagnostic services communities depend on are accurate, reliable, and safe.
