Excellence Community Education Welfare Scheme (ECEWS), through the Sustainable Programs for HIV Epidemic Control and Service Delivery (SPEED) Project, funded by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), conducted Baby Shower outreaches in Osun and Ekiti States in June 2026 to drive demand for antenatal care, HIV testing, and Prevention of Mother to Child Transmission (PMTCT) services among pregnant women. 

In Osun State, ECEWS partnered with As Sallam Mosque leadership and community stakeholders to reach 60 pregnant women in Olorunda Local Government Area on 18 June. The team delivered health education on PMTCT and antenatal care, and offered free HIV and syphilis screening during which three women testing positive for syphilis were referred for treatment, while one known HIV positive woman was linked to continued care. The outreach closed with distribution of Mama Packs to encourage ongoing engagement with preventive healthcare. 

Subsequently, in Ekiti State, ECEWS partnered with the Ekiti State AIDS and STI Control Programme (SASCP) to conduct two outreaches, in Iye Community on 12 June and Ijero Community on 16 June. Both events educated pregnant women and their spouses on antenatal care registration, PMTCT services, treatment adherence, and safe delivery practices, alongside HIV counselling, testing, and referrals for further care. 

Collectively, these outreaches continue to serve as effective platforms for integrating HIV prevention into routine maternal and child health services, improving access to lifesaving interventions, and advancing the SPEED Project’s goal of achieving epidemic control through community-driven, people-centred healthcare.
