The ECEWS team in Cross River State participated in the Cross River State Prevention of Mother-to-Child Transmission (PMTCT) Review Meeting on 16th of June 2026, alongside key stakeholders, implementing partners, and government representatives committed to strengthening HIV service delivery across the state. The meeting provided a platform to assess PMTCT programme performance, evaluate progress toward the elimination of mother-to-child transmission of HIV, identify implementation gaps, and develop strategies to improve maternal and child health outcomes. Discussions centered on service uptake, retention in care, early infant diagnosis, viral load suppression among pregnant and breastfeeding women, data quality, and interventions to reduce missed opportunities within the PMTCT cascade. 

 During the meeting, participants reviewed programme achievements, shared best practices, and explored innovative approaches to enhance service delivery at both facility and community levels. The ECEWS team contributed to discussions on strengthening community-facility linkages, improving client follow-up mechanisms, supporting mentor mother activities, and ensuring timely reporting and utilization of quality data for decision-making. 

Speaking during the meeting, Madam Mary Amah, the State Antiretroviral Programme Coordinator (SAPC), noted that the meeting reaffirmed the collective commitment of the Cross River State Government, development partners, and implementing organizations to achieving epidemic control and ensuring that every pregnant woman has access to quality PMTCT services.

ECEWS remains dedicated to supporting the state in implementing evidence-based interventions that improve maternal, newborn, and child health outcomes, while advancing the goal of eliminating mother-to-child transmission of HIV in Cross River State.
