CDC Program Review Strengthens HIV Service Delivery Across Osun State

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recently conducted a comprehensive program review of ECEWS-supported interventions across five health facilities in Osun State: State Specialist Hospital, Asubiaro; State Hospital, Ede; UNIOSUN Teaching Hospital (UTH), Osogbo; Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospitals Complex (OAUTHC), Ile-Ife; and Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Hospital, Jaleyemi, from 23rd – 25th June 2026.  

The review provided an opportunity to assess program performance across key technical areas, including HIV, TB/HIV, laboratory services, and other related interventions. Through facility assessments, stakeholder engagements, and technical discussions, the team examined progress made, celebrated notable achievements, identified implementation gaps, and developed practical recommendations to strengthen service delivery and improve patient outcomes.  

A key highlight of the exercise was the advocacy visits to senior leadership at participating facilities. The CDC team engaged the Chief Medical Director of UNIOSUN Teaching Hospital, the Chief Medical Advisory Committee (CMAC) at OAUTHC, and the Chief Consultant at State Specialist Hospital, Asubiaro. These engagements reinforced the critical role of institutional leadership in sustaining quality healthcare services, promoting accountability, and ensuring continued support for HIV and TB/HIV interventions.  

The review reaffirmed the shared commitment of CDC, ECEWS, and facility management to continuous quality improvement and evidence-based programming. By identifying opportunities for enhancement while recognizing existing successes, the exercise has laid a stronger foundation for improved service delivery and sustained progress toward achieving epidemic control and ending the HIV epidemic in Osun State.
