Excellence Community Education Welfare Scheme (ECEWS) in partnership with John Hopkin Programs for International Education on Gynecology and Obstetrics (JHPIEGO) is implementing the MCGL project from August 2020 to September 2024 to address major contributors of maternal mortality and morbidity through the prevention and mitigation of consequences of violence against women and girls (VAW/G) and possible drivers of child early and forced marriage (CEFM), Intimate partner violence (IPV), Sexual  violence (SV) and early adoption of family planning (FP)

The implementation cuts across 11 LGAs in Ebonyi State, (Izzi,Ebonyi, Abakaliki, Ezza North, Ezza South, Onicha, Ohaozara, Afikpo North, Afikpo South, Ivo ann Ikwo) however, ECEWS will cover 151 Health facilities (11 GHs and 140 PHCs) in the state.

ECEWS participated in a two-day activation orientation meeting organized by JHPIEGO to familiarize the local partners with the project sub-agreement, program strategy, deliverables, work plan and the budget. Also to orient the local partners on the MEL plan and reporting expectations.

ECEWS has carried out an advocacy visit to Ministry of Women Affairs (MOWA) Primary Health Care Development Agency (EBSPHCDA), Ministry of Health (MOH) and Traditional ruler’s office in Ebonyi state to introduce the Momentum Country Global Leadership (MCGL) project and the local partners to Stakeholders and to elicit the support of Stakeholders on the project.

Built capacity of young people on Behavioral focused-applied political economy analysis (BF-APEA), integrated technical organizational capacity assessment (ITOCA) and Social norms exploration tools (SNET) that will help mitigate social norms in the community.

Sensitization was conducted to brief stakeholders on the MCGL project as well as the GBV service mapping plans to secure their inputs and solicit for their support on the operationalize and roll out plan of the program.
