Deac. Eno Ekanem, M. PHIL (Grisby UK) FCAI, President of Board of Directors
Deac Eno Ekanem is a seasoned administrator, an industrialist and social innovator and manager. She has acquired extensive local and international training’s and experiences in industrial Management, Food Technology, Women Economic Empowerment, and management of startups, sustainable social enterprise promotion and talent management/development. She is extremely passionate about motivating talented individuals until they bring out their very best!
Deac. Eno possess a M.PHIL in Food Technology, as well as several local and international certifications, including these on Project Management, Project Formulation, Feasibility Study, and Appraisals. Before joining the public service, Deac. Eno Ekanem had worked at leadership level in several private companies. She was an adjunct lecturer at the University of Uyo, Nigeria where she lectured on Food Technology and Wine production. She pioneered producer of Cocoa Wine using pure wine yeast strain for the improvement of Cocoa wine taste. She served as Director of Industry in the Akwa Ibom State Ministry of Commerce and Industry an agency of the state that caters for small and medium scale entrepreneurs in Nigeria.
Key Competencies includes, startup of small and medium scale industries, Women and Youth empowerment, leadership development, learning and organisational development.
Prof. Eno – Abasi Urua PHD, Vice President of Board Directors
Eno-Abasi Urua, Ph.D. is a Professor of Linguistics and is the pioneer and current Director of Centre for Gender & Women Studies in the University of Uyo in Nigeria. She has worked on various gender and women issues and with many governmental and non-governmental organizations on gender matters. She has a passion for working to improve the condition of the challenged in the society. Counselling students, young people, including female students is one of her interests.
Among her many other engagements, she has taught and researched in Linguistics (Phonetics and Phonology, Language Documentation) in the University system for upwards of 30 years. In the course of her professional career, she has been an Association of Commonwealth Universities Post-Doctoral Fellow at the Department of Linguistics, University of Edinburgh, Scotland (1993-1994), a visiting research scholar, Department of Linguistics, University of London (1999) and an Alexander von Humboldt (Georg Foster) Fellow at the Fakultaet fuer Linguistik und Literaturwissenschaft, Universitaet Bielefeld, Bielefeld, Germany (2000-2001).
Mrs. Uduak Akai, B.A, (Calabar), JP – Secretary of the Board
Uduak Akai holds a bachelor degree in Linguistics from the University of Calabar, Nigeria and is a VC specialist with robust experience in the care and support for VC infected and affected with HIV/AIDS. She has significant experience in grants management using USAID and CDC related circulars and is involved in management of grants and finance of sub grantees. She has been trained on courses that cuts across leadership development and financial management, Peer Education Plus (PEP) Model for Community Level strategic HIV/AIDS prevention , HIV prevention for people living with HIV/AIDS (PWP), Care and Support for VC, Adventures of Kami and Big Bird by Sesame Street, Micro Enterprise Fundamentals and Home-stead Farming Fundamentals, Safeguarding children, LIFT Economic strengthening (ES), Child- to- Child Approach and other related areas which enables her to manage her current responsibility as the Business Official for Excellence Community Education Welfare Scheme (ECEWS).
During her stay with ECEWS, she employed feasible strategies for increase uptake of eligible VC based on program target/ VC National guidelines and contributed positively to the overall improvement in the management of funds by ECEWS supported CBOs as well as quality of service delivery at supported communities through guided program design and implementation. In addition, she worked together with ECEWS M&E team to develop a VC data base that can ease management of data from the field, increase accuracy of data and project needs of VC based on monthly data fed in from different sites. She worked with ECEWS supported CBOs to involve community leaders and the community as a whole in program planning and implementation to increase ownership and sustainability. She is a member of the International AIDS society and Child Protection Network. She is a hard-working and goal oriented team player who manages multiple tasks with ease while achieving demonstrable excellent results.
Dr.Uduak Okon MD (PHD) Calabar, Treasurer
Dr. Uduak Okon is an Associate Professor of Physiology at University of Uyo. Uyo – Akwa Ibom State. Dr. Okon was educated at the University of Calabar, Nigeria (MBBCh 1998, M.Sc 2015, and PhD 2010). He joined the University of Uyo as 2002 and is currently an Associate Professor of Physiology at University of Uyo. Uyo – Akwa Ibom State He specializes in Endocrinology/Reproduction and Gastroenterology. Dr. Okon has served as a member of the Akwa Ibom State Medical Surveillance Team for Christian Pilgrimage since 2013. He is also a member of the Member College of Health Sciences Academic Board, University of Uyo, Uyo. He is passionate about care and support for people living with HIV and AIDS.
Dr. Okon is a member of the College of Medical Science Research and Ethical Committee, University of Uyo – Uyo. He has served as external examiner since 2013 and Board member with Excellence community Education Welfare Scheme (ECEWS) since 2013. He has taught and carried research in Physiology, menarche in girls, methanolic extract, and Diabetes among others. He is actively involved in the pursuit of medical education reform in Nigeria.
Dr. Emem Abasi Bassey (MB.BS) Benin, Board Member
Dr. Emem Bassey is a Consultant in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital. He was a resource person on PMTCT for Global HIV/AIDS initiative Nigeria (GHAIN) 2006. A master trainer on Malaria in Pregnancy, prevention of Mother- to- Child transmission of HIV/AIDS (PMTCT), Emergency Obstetric and New-born Care and Standards based management and Recognition (SBMR) for JHPIEGO a John Hopkins University affiliate. Dr Bassey has been a lead facilitator on Prevention and Management of Sexually Transmitted Diseases. He has played significant role in community service in Nigeria and in West Africa.
Andy Eyo (PGDEM, MBA, FRSPH) – Chief Executive Officer
ECEWS is coordinated by a highly self-motivated and talented executive, Andy Eyo. He is a graduate of Chemistry from the University of Calabar- South-East Nigeria and holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Environmental management and in Education from the University of Uyo. He also holds a Master degree in Business Administration (Leadership) from the University of Liverpool and has attended several courses in Education and HIV/AIDS and is a community level strategic HIV/AIDS prevention specialist. He is an experienced human resource Manager and grants management specialist with Certificate in Grant Management from North Pole institute, USA and Lagos Business School. He is an experienced trainer and technical advisor in HIV/AIDS programming and has been responsible for the overall performance management in ECEWS with certification from Measure Evaluation/PHRP-OAU Ife as a Monitoring and Evaluation professional. He has several certifications in management of World Bank programs especially in the HAF 1 process; he was responsible for managing the World Bank sponsored technical assistance project for CSOs mandated to implement HAF 1 in 2005- 2006. He was the Principal Investigator and Project Director of a seven year long $5.1 million MACC-4 project; a CDC/PEPFAR project in Akwa Ibom, Cross River and Abia States focusing on HIV Prevention, Care and Support. Currently he is the Principal Investigator of a CDC/PEPFAR Comprehensive HIV/AIDS care and Treatment project in Enugu, Imo and Ebonyi States which supports over 4000 patients on anti-retroviral therapy. He also supervises the UNFPA funded SRH/HIV integration project in Benue, Cross River, Akwa Ibom and Kaduna States. He has certifications on the Epidemiology of HIV/AIDS and Health Planning from John Hopkins University, MD USA.
He is a member of the International AIDS Society, Environmental Managers Association of Nigeria, and Counselling Association of Nigeria. He provides leadership in program implementation across all ECEWS project and manages relationship with ECEWS Donor and partners. He is a team player and has very excellent communication skills and good ability to analyse situations and make quality decisions as necessary.
