Saving The Unborn Child & Women Empowerment Project

Past Project

This project was inspired by the need to expand access to HIV/AIDS educations for Traditional Birth Attendants (TBAs) who were the major birth attendants in our rural communities. “Saving the Unborn Child” project included training of   TBA’s on HIV/AIDS, and equipping them with basic tools for PMTCT as well as potential infection of themselves with the virus. 22 TBAs across Uyo 7 Ibesikpo Asutan LGAs were sensitized on PMTCT and universal precautions.  ECEWS also carried out Voluntary Confidential Counseling and Testing of HIV in ProHealth International supported Free Health Care programs including awareness campaign in ante-natal care clinic and capacity building of health workers.

In September 2013, ECEWS received funding support from Nka Uforo Iban Akwa Ibom State USA Inc. to implement an empowerment project for ultra-poor market women in the Akpan Andem entrepreneurial market, Uyo and Abak main market. Active implementation commenced with advocacy to relevant stakeholders, community mobilization and sensitization,  identification and selection of the beneficiaries, capacity building of beneficiaries in Basic Business Practices, seed grants disbursement, supporting the market association to achieve minimum operating standard, monitoring and reporting on the project. At the end of the day a total of 51 women received funding under the project.
