Despite Nigeria’s huge agricultural resources and oil wealth, poverty is widespread with some 70% of Nigerians living on less than US $1.25 a day. The situation is worst in rural areas where up to 80 percent of the population lives below the poverty line, and social infrastructures are limited.
At ECEWS we believe that when people have the power to claim their fundamental rights, they can escape poverty-permanently. This belief underscores our poverty reduction programmes. With our partners and with local communities, we help ultra-poor people to claim their rights for themselves.
