UNFPA CROSS RIVER STATE OFFICE HEAD VISITS ECEWS CONFIDENCE CENTRE
On August 15, UNFPA Cross River State office head, Mr. Kenneth Ehouzou visited the UNFPA-supported ECEWS Confidence Centre in Uyo. In a tour of the facility with the ECEWS Executive Director, Mr. Andy Eyo, Mr. EHouzou met with the ECEWS Confidence Centre Service providers and the young ones who access the various services provided by the centre.
In remarks during the visit, Ehouzou said, “I’m impressed by the center, I have seen a lot of centers outside Nigeria, this is the first one that I am seeing in Nigeria. In Calabar, we cover 6 different states, this is the 4th state that I’m visiting and I’ve not seen such an excellent and functional center. It is an opportunity for me to congratulate ECEWS for a job well done and I believe that it is a partnership that we need to maintain and continue. We cannot help young people to know their bodies and avoid pregnancies if we don’t work in partnership with different stakeholders.”
Since 2013, UNFPA has been supporting ECEWS Confidence Center which provides Sexual and Reproductive Health Services to young women and youths in Akwa Ibom State. Other services offered in the center include recreational, networking and referral services. Between January & July, the center has offered HIV Counselling & Testing services to 668 youths (335 Males & 333 Females) with 13 Positives (5 Males & 8 Females).
Ehouzou encouraged all to think out of the box and find ways in which additional resources could be mobilized to meet the rising demands of the young people not minding the resource constraint plaguing every arm of the system.
Ehouzou’s visit to ECEWS Confidence Centre was part of a familiarization visit to Akwa Ibom State.
